Privacy Policy

Gabbai is built so that you can use it without giving us anything. This page explains what we store when you do sign in, why, where, and how to delete it.
Who we are
Gabbai — the iPhone app, the web app at gabbai.zivug.app/app and this website — is made and operated by Mikhail David Plotnikov, Israel (the “operator”, “we”). Contact: dovidphone@gmail.com.
Without an account
You can use Gabbai for up to 25 people without any account. Then your community lives only on your iPhone. If you turn on backups, they go to your own iCloud Drive, which is managed by Apple; we have no access to it. We receive nothing.
With an account: what we store
When you sign in with Apple or Google to sync your devices, use the web app or Gabbai Pro, we store:
- Your account: the sign-in method (Apple or Google), the account identifier it gives us, and your name and email address as Apple or Google provide them (with Apple you may choose to hide your email).
- Your community data that you enter: names, names for the call to the Torah, Kohen/Levi/Yisrael, phone numbers, notes, yahrzeits and family dates, honors and their history, day plans, attendance marks, pledges and payments, the Mi Sheberach list, and the community's name and logo.
- Your access to Gabbai Pro: the date your free trial started and ended, and, if you subscribe, the App Store transaction the app sends us (product, dates, transaction ID). Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card or payment details.
- Technical data needed to run the service: sign-in sessions for your devices and the web app (one cookie, used only to keep you signed in), and server logs with the IP address and the requested address, used only for security and troubleshooting.
Why we use it
Only to provide the service you asked for: keep your community in your account, sync it between your devices and the web app, restore it on a new phone, check your access to Gabbai Pro, prevent abuse, and answer you when you write to us. The legal basis is the performance of our agreement with you and, for security and abuse prevention, our legitimate interest.
Where it is stored
On our own server rented from Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (European Union), reached only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Daily backups stay on the same infrastructure and are kept for 14 days. Sign-in is provided by Apple or Google, and subscriptions are processed by Apple, each under its own privacy policy.
What we never do
- No ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking, no analytics, no third-party cookies — on the website, in the web app and in the iPhone app.
- We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone, and we do not read your community's data except when you ask us for help with it.
Free trial: a minimal record
Signing in gives 60 days of Gabbai Pro once per person. To keep that fair after an account is deleted, we keep a minimal record: one-way cryptographic hashes of your Apple or Google account identifier and of your email address (if Apple or Google confirmed one), and the date your trial started. The record does not contain your name, your email address in readable form, or any community data, and it is used only to check whether a trial was already given.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete account (in the iPhone app or the web app) immediately deletes your account and all its community data from our server; backups that contain it expire within 14 days. Only the minimal trial record described above remains. Data on your iPhone and in your iCloud Drive stays under your control. You can also write to us and we will delete it for you.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, or to restrict its use, and you can export your community from the app at any time. If you are in the EU, you may also complain to your data protection authority. Write to dovidphone@gmail.com — we answer every request.
People in your community
As gabbai you enter information about other people. Please do so only as your community expects and keep it accurate. Anyone may ask to have their data removed — through the gabbai or by writing to us.
Children
Gabbai is a tool for adults who run a synagogue's honors and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with its date.
